CUBE

Rejecting sleekness for a natural, scrappy and uncertain appearance I am interested in forms that are articulated by organic lines and odd wobbles. Featureless objects that are unidentifiable aside from their function provide an interplay between the material and the reactive environment. Extending the vision of a body into an unforgiving shape, my work is wrapped into a power struggle one cannot overcome. Formatted around the function of our senses, an understanding of sight, touch and sound, I have created an interaction piece where the viewer becomes the optical instrument. The experience of various retinal effects and sounds of slow breathing fill the space. A portable model cube (180 cm sq.) is covered in black and grey stretchable material both transparent and opaque. I am interested in how low-fi objects can make a skin sheath between dreams and reality, of awareness and behaviour through inquiry. The membrane is there when we are born, it is part of existence and our creation. Touch has been materialised into sound with the revolutionary Touch-me MIDI controller by Plantronics. The human body and material objects are translated into interactive audio.
